Perth Town Hall was completed in 1870, mainly by convict workers, with an award-winning restoration completed in 2005.  It is constructed in the Victorian Free Gothic style with its coloured bricks coming from the nearby clay pits of what is now Queen's Gardens.  It sits on the highest, most central point of the original townsite, very close to the spot where early colonists felled a tree to commemorate the Foundation of Perth in 1829.
