ANZAC Cottage was built in one day on February 12,1916 by the community of Mount Hawthorn as a home for a returned wounded soldier and his family and as a memorial for those who lost their lives in the tragic Gallipoli landing. The building was initiated by the Mount Hawthorn Progress Association and has been supported eagerly by the community with donations ensuring the cottage would be a suitable and enduring memorial for the Gallipoli veterans. As part of Open House Perth the friends of ANZAC Cottage invite you to celebrate the centenary of this monument to the efforts of our ANZAC's and the community of Mount Hawthorn. On Saturday 12th November there will be a Remembrance Day ceremony and all are invited to visit our Field of Remembrance.
